Hardwood Wax Removal Charlotte, Mint Hill, Matthews And Cotswold Areas

Using store-bought products advertised to make your floors shine will provide temporary results that will eventually cause your floors to accumulate layers of wax, acrylic, and oils that collect and hold dirt. The floors will become lackluster, and in some cases, the floors will develop a pasty or filmy appearance. These waxes, oils, or acrylic-based cleaners quickly build up and leave your floors unattractive.

Understand The Why

Acrylic wax does not provide the same level of protection as hardwood finishes like polyurethane. Acrylic wax will require frequent reapplication. This cause problems because the wax can be embedded in the grains of wood.

Multiple layers of wax can build up leading to a thick, uneven coating altering the natural appearance of the wood, causing yellowing. There is dirt and other particles trap between each layer of wax. The only way to have clean floors is to remove the wax.

The wax can create a slippery surface, especially when wet. This poses a safety hazard in areas prone to spills or moisture, such as kitchens or bathrooms. Proscout Hardwood Floor Restoration have the right solutions, equipment, and experience to get the job done.

Removing old layers of acrylic wax can be challenging and labor-intensive. It requires specific products and specialized equipment. Our professional has the experience needed to remove the wax and restore your floors.

Expert Recommendations

Given these potential long-term effects of acrylic waxes (typically brought in the grocery store) many experts recommend using water-based or oil-based polyurethane for hardwood floors. These finishes generally offer better durability, longevity, and ease of maintenance compared to acrylic wax.

Learn More About Our Screen and Recoat

If the wax has become embedded into the wood, we recommend doing a Screen and Recoat. This process will help get the wax out of the grain and give your floors a fresh coat of polyurethane protection.  You may have heard this process be called a Buff and Coat.
